Patanjali faces license revocation for misleading ads. Supreme Court intervenes after Indian Medical Association’s petition. Regulatory scrutiny continues. The Uttarakhand Drug Licensing Authority has revoked the manufacturing license for 10 products from Divya Pharmacy, a branch of Patanjali, citing misleading commercial advertisements. Allegations surfaced that these advertisements violated the ‘Drugs and Magic Remedies Act’ and the ‘Drugs and Cosmetic Act’, prompting regulatory action.

Authorities found that Patanjali failed to substantiate the advertised benefits of its products and provided unsatisfactory explanations. This development follows a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in the Supreme Court, accusing Patanjali of disseminating false information about modern medical practices.

During the court proceedings, Patanjali’s legal representatives assured the court that such misleading practices would cease. However, the court expressed dismay over continued violations, prompting a directive for a public apology. The case remains under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court as it deliberates on appropriate measures to address the issue of false advertising and uphold consumer protection standards.
